Inter chief Beppe Marotta assures there is ‘no reason not to continue’ with Simone Inzaghi and they must put the Champions League out of their minds during the Coppa Italia Final with Fiorentina.

It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

The Nerazzurri already won the Coppa Italia last season and have already retained the Supercoppa Italiana, but on top of that are also qualified for the Champions League Final against Manchester City on June 10.

Marotta already said last week that Inzaghi will ‘certainly’ be the coach next season too.

“There’s no reason not to continue the rapport.”

“Inter are obliged to always be protagonists in every competition, as the trophy cabinet shows clearly. We are proud to be in this Final, because it is an appointment we all care about and want to lift the trophy against a Fiorentina side that is doing well and needs to be respected,” Marotta told Sport Mediaset.

“We need great motivation, which is not easy with so many games to play. We must not make the mistake of thinking of the Champions League yet, as that might be a more prestigious tournament, but in sporting terms just as important as tonight, and then get the Serie A position back on track.”

It was noted that Matteo Darmian and Samir Handanovic are two players who encapsulate the professionalism and hard-working attitude of the Inter squad.

“Darmian is one of these rare players who was born and raised within 10km of the Pinetina training ground. He was signed practically for free, is a great professional and a wonderful lad who always steps up when called upon by the coach.

“Handanovic is an example of professionalism and it is only right that he is played tonight, having helped his colleague throughout the season.”

Inzaghi has achieved remarkable things in the Cup competitions over the last two seasons, but struggled in Serie A, so Marotta was asked if he is a better coach in smooth sailing or choppy waters?

“It is impossible to imagine a season where everything goes perfectly. There are going to be difficulties, the coach is the leader and the club supports him to get through those critical moments. During those moments, there can be a raising of the stakes and tension, as that is natural to help everyone push through.”
