Inter director Beppe Marotta insists Juventus are favourites to win the Serie A title and confirms talks for Lautaro Martinez’s contract extension are ongoing.

Marotta spoke to DAZN minutes before the kick-off of Inter-Frosinone.

The Nerazzurri are currently one point below Juventus but will overtake the Bianconeri with a victory tonight.

“The team is certainly improving and compared to previous years has gained a strong mentality. It is now able to control games with the confidence that comes from experience over different tournaments over various seasons,” Marotta told DAZN.

“The role of management is to support the coaching staff in their work. Without giving alibis and making sure they get the best out of their work. We are essentially protecting the work that over years has become winning.”

Juventus coach Allegri has reiterated that Inter are favourites to win the title this season, but Marotta thinks otherwise.

“They have a similar consistency behind the scenes as us. Napoli are struggling, but the change of coach can cause problems like that,” he said.

“I believe Juve are the favourites because they can plan the week better, but this must not be an alibi for us, if anything further motivation to create a fascinating league battle to the very end.”

The 66-year-old, a former Juventus director, was asked what he likes about this Inter side.

“The guys know we have to suffer to win games. We can win some matches only if we put in great commitment,” he replied.

“We have dropped points against mid-level teams so, with all the respect due, we can still improve.”

Lautaro Martinez is Serie A’s leading scorer and was named Serie A Player of the Month for October while Inter are in talks to extend his contract beyond 2026.

“We discuss with serenity. The fundamental aspect is that both parties want to continue this path. I think [the POTM award] it’s a deserved recognition given what he showed,” Marotta concluded.

Lautaro has scored 14 goals in 15 appearances across all competitions this season, 12 in 11 Serie A matches.

He signed a new contract in October 2021, but the Nerazzurri are ready to offer him an improved deal after promoting him to club captain last summer.
