Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta makes a veiled reference to Napoli, saying ‘human error is part of the game’.

The Partenopei were furious after a draw with 10-man Atalanta, claiming that Mauricio Pinilla’s goal should have been disallowed for a foul.

“It’s a typically Italian thing to blame the referee instead of criticising yourself,” Marotta told reporters outside a meeting of Serie A clubs.

“I’m not talking about Napoli, but in general. The adjective ‘falsified’ is used whenever there’s a mistake by the match officials, but these things even out over the season and the team that wins is the strongest.

“Technology can help in the case of goal or no-goal decisions, but not for slow-motion decisions on the pitch.

“Human error is part of the game, but only in Italy do we spend Monday morning talking about referees.”
