Atalanta have confirmed that transfer guru Pierpaolo Marino has signed a new five-year contract with the club.

The official moved to Bergamo in the summer when he was handed a two-year deal to become the team’s new technical director.

However, after the outfit’s sensational season which has seen them survive the drop despite a points penalty, the 57-year-old has been rewarded for his efforts.

“Marino has renewed with Atalanta,” President Antonio Percassi confirmed. “He’s signed a five-year contract and will replace Roberto Spagnolo as the club’s director general.”

Spagnolo will be given a different role at the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia.

Marino is an experienced official who has worked in the game since 1977. He’s enjoyed spells at Avellino, Napoli, Roma, Pescara and Udinese in his career.
