Pasquale Marino is fired up for his debut on the Genoa bench and confirms Alberto Gilardino will start against Cagliari.

This is a very different side to the one that went into the Christmas break, as Coach Alberto Malesani was sacked and hitman Gilardino drafted in from Fiorentina” data-scaytid=”33″>Fiorentina.

“There is a great deal of enthusiasm,” said the new tactician in his Press conference this afternoon.

“We received a wonderful welcome from the fans and this is why we want to start off on the right foot with a strong performance.

“Having a player like Gilardino with us means we must try to make the most of his characteristics, getting the ball to the by-line and providing service both from the flanks and through the final third.

“Of course we need time and work to find the right balance. So far I have been very impressed by players like Juraj Kucka and Bosko Jankovic who, despite not making many appearances, stand out for their intensity and readiness.

“We are without some important figures for this game, like Kakha Kaladze, Miguel Veloso and Rodrigo Palacio, but at the same time I am confident they will not be missed.”

Marino makes his debut by making the visit to Cagliari, who are only three points behind Genoa.

“It is going to be a difficult match because the Sardinians are coming off a disappointing period of results, which will make it interesting, as we both really need a success. Cagliari have done very well in recent years and so we must prepare as best we can to face them.”
