Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio says their Supercoppa win over Lazio was a response to those who said the club’s cycle of success was ending.

The Old Lady defeated Lazio 2-0 in Shanghai on Saturday to secure the curtain-raiser trophy thanks to goals from new signings Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala.

“It was a difficult game, but we were able to unlock them and in the last twenty minutes even handle it with ease,” Marchisio told La Stampa.

“It was a difficult game, but we were able to unlock them and in the last twenty minutes even handle it with ease,” Marchisio told La Stampa.

“But there were so many unknowns: the first game of the year, where were playing for a trophy, a pitch and climate far from ideal.

“In the end there was a very positive response from the team. The answer came from the new players, who went out on the pitch and scored.

“It was a response to the noises that there were around that we were a team that could be at the end of its cycle.

“It’s true that the season hasn’t started yet, but the first step has been very positive.”
