Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti felt they “sent an important signal” by beating Fiorentina 3-1 to join Napoli in third place.

This evening’s result, which saw Marchetti save a Josip Ilicic penalty, allowed them to leapfrog Milan in the standings.

“I am pleased to have given the team a hand, but this victory was down to the whole group and we are continuing the path we started on this summer,” the goalkeeper told Mediaset Premium.

“This is a great win and we can do so much better going forward too. We are young and if we don’t let up, we can have a lot of fun this season.

“The fans are coming back to the stadium too and we are happy.”
