The Sardinian outfit have lost their last five consecutive games in all competitions and Maran says Cagliari need to rediscover themselves.

“I think we have to try and recover and repeat the rhythm we showed in the first half of the season,” said Maran in his press conference ahead of the game.

“In less than a month we cannot think that we’ve lost our DNA.”

Asked if he would like to replay one of the matches Cagliari have lost this season, Maran says one in particular.

“I would replay them all, absolutely. However if I had to choose, I would probably pick the one against Lazio, because we suffered particularly from that defeat mentally.

“Some left-over damage remains from that loss unfortunately, as I have seen it in the goals we have given away to our opponents since.”

The Rossoblu had only lost twice in the league before their difficult period, and Maran believes that had their defeats been more evenly spread out, no one would take issue with their troubles.

“The calendar has not helped us and we must not look for alibis. We put together a run of 13 consecutive games without losing, but we must understand that this is our level, we aren’t aiming for the top three positions in the league.”

Despite the downswing in performances, Maran states no one has asked to leave.

“Nobody has asked me anything, but even if they did, they shouldn’t talk to me but to the club.”
