Rolando Maran admitted that Catania ‘took a step back’ against Chievo, but still believes in his side to pull out of the relegation zone.

The Sicilians fell to an important 2-0 defeat away to their relegation rivals Chievo on Sunday afternoon, to remain locked in the bottom three of the table.

“We have taken a step back. Unfortunately we were unable to maintain balance as well as we had in recent games,” conceded Coach Maran post-match.

“In the first half we played well, but then the penalty has changed everything, and perhaps there was a penalty for us.

“In any case, compared to the last few games, we have taken a step back. But, we must raise ourselves at once and continue to pursue survival that depends only on us.

“The race is down to us, we shall see what will come. And I repeat that this team has the ability to get out.”
