Napoli are reportedly ready to meet the €36m release clause of Roma defender Kostas Manolas and offer him a five-year contract.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicolo Schira, Manolas will earn €4m a season if he accepts the proposal, while Napoli will meet his agent Mino Raiola next week to finalise the transfer.

Schira adds the Partenopei will pay €36m for the Greece international, despite rumours that midfielder Amadou Diawara had been offered in exchange to reduce the fee.

The move comes as something of a surprise, given the likes of Juventus, Arsenal and Manchester United were thought to be at the front of the queue.

Manolas joined Roma from Olympiakos in the summer of 2014 for €15m and has gone on to make 206 appearances for the Giallorossi.
