Milan are reportedly in pole position for Napoli left-back Mario Rui as a return to Roma is ‘impossible’.

According to Sportitalia’s Alfredo Pedulla, incoming Milan Coach Marco Giampaolo has requested Mario Rui be brought in.

The pair worked together at Empoli during the 2015-2016 campaign, helping the Tuscan finish 10th Serie A, with the defender starting 36 League games.

Furthermore, the 28-year-old will not be heading back to Roma, Pedulla writing they are looking for full-backs with ‘different characteristics’.

Rui spent one season with the Lupi but ruptured knee ligaments and ultimately made just nine appearances in the capital.

Pedulla concludes that newly-appointed Roma boss Paulo Fonseca would like to be reunited with his Shakhtar Donetsk left-back Ismaily.
