Italy Under-21 side Coach Devis Mangia urged teams to give players like Lorenzo Insigne more space in Serie A.

The Azzurrini are in the European Under-21 Championships in June and Insigne is expected to be their star striker, although he rarely starts for Napoli.

“Lorenzo looked great in this week’s get-together and in excellent shape,” Mangia told Radio Crc.

“Since the moment we met, I’ve never had a bad word to say about Insigne, as he has always been perfect on the field and off it in terms of his behaviour.

“I am not saying that more young players ought to be starting for their clubs, but that talented people have to play regardless of their age. If Insigne deserves to start, then he should find the right space.”

Insigne is expected to be in the starting XI for Napoli against Pescara this weekend, as Edinson Cavani is suspended.

Mangia also commented on some of the other players who have broken out from the Under-21 side.

“You could tell from the Primavera side that Mattia De Sciglio would go far, but this year his growth has been incredible and he forced his way into the senior Milan line-up.

“Stephan El Shaarawy has also grown a great deal, as have Ciro Immobile, Alessandro Florenzi and Manolo Gabbiadini.”
