Ahead of Verona’s trip to Roma, Coach Andrea Mandorlini has expressed his deep fondness for Argentine forward Juan Iturbe.

Iturbe thrived for the Butei last season before making a big money move to the Italian capital this past summer.

Whilst unavailable for tomorrow’s fixture through injury, Mandorlini hopes to still be able to catch a glimpse of his former player.

“I hope to be able to see him in the locker room, I hope he pays us a visit,” Mandorlini said of the 21-year-old who’s nursing a hamstring injury.

“I’m disappointed that he’s injured, maybe he’ll recover for the following week.

“He’s a really important player and we are happy he’s doing well. I didn’t hear from him this week.

“I consider him a champion, but first and foremost a son. He gave me a lot and I am happy that he found his element in a big team.

“I thank him for the kind words he sent my way, I gave and received a lot from him. He was a child, a son, but outside of his technical qualities he was also a really intelligent kid.”

Now that Iturbe is no longer at Verona, Mandorlini mentioned fellow Argentine Nico Lopez as a potential successor.

“In terms of characteristics it could be Nico Lopez, even if Juan Manuel got involved quicker.”
