And the ex-Azzurri striker has admitted that he would jump at the chance of managing the side.
“I’ve always been a patriot,” he told Il Giornale. “I never forget Italy, even more so when I’m abroad for work.
“Who would not dream of coaching their national team? I’d come running if they asked.
“It makes me very happy and proud to be in the thoughts [for the job].
“The reality though is that I have not had a call from anyone.”
Mancini then revealed what he would do with Mario Balotelli, were he to be called up for the position.
“He would definitely play for me. He is one of the best young players around, but he has to wake up.”
