The Azzurri have so far won all nine games in Group J and can this evening conclude the fixture list with a 100 per cent record.

“Everyone wants to win every game when they start out. It’s not an easy thing to achieve and there are always going to be difficulties, but we’re in this situation now and we’ll try to go for it,” the CT told Rai Sport.

Former Milan and Italy boss Arrigo Sacchi said this week that Mancini’s Italy set the example for the style of football Serie A clubs ought to be following.

“It’s pleasing what Arrigo said, as he did extraordinary things and transformed Italian football. We’re trying to do our best, would like to do something special, but there’s a long way to go still.

“Arrigo reached the World Cup Final in 1994 and only lost on penalties. We’ll try to put what we’ve learned over the last 13-14 months into action during a tournament.

“The lads have adapted and settled much quicker than anyone expected and that helped us to get the group locked down early.”
