Italy CT Roberto Mancini admits ‘if Daniele De Rossi was the best Italian midfielder before Euro 2020 then I’d call him up.’
De Rossi announced his retirement from international football after Italy’s failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, but Mancini made it clear the door was still open for the Roma veteran.
“I talked to them both [De Rossi and Gianluigi Buffon] at the beginning,” he said in his third and final part of his interview with Radio Anch’io Sport.

“If I need them then they’re always available, but we’ve embarked on a path of reconstruction so it’s difficult to think that we’ll see them again in Italy shirts.
“It’s true, however, that if De Rossi was the best Italian midfielder before the European Championship then I’d call him up.”
