Roberto Mancini is reportedly unhappy with life at Zenit St Petersburg and could return to Italy as the Coach of Milan.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Mancio has been approached by Rossoneri directors Marco Fassone and Massimiliano Mirabelli, who had been at Inter when he was on that bench.

The 53-year-old only took the Zenit job in July and is under contract until June 2020 with a deal worth €8m per year.

So far, he has been in charge for 31 Zenit games, earning 17 wins, eight draws and six defeats.

Mancini is said to be missing Italian football and intrigued by the possibility of resuscitating the other Milanese giant, having already taken Inter to three consecutive Serie A titles.

Gennaro Gattuso was promoted to the main Milan job from the Primavera youth team after Vincenzo Montella was fired last month, but has failed to transform their fortunes.

It’s rumoured that defeat in tonight’s Coppa Italia quarter-final with Inter could result in Gattuso being removed too.
