Roberto Mancini insisted tactics were not key to Inter’s 2-2 draw with Lazio, but there is “fear” when playing at San Siro.

“In Italy everyone is a Coach, so they all have their opinions. I see the team every day and thought our system in the first half could be a good option," he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Obviously, conceding within two minutes changes plans and that opened up further spaces for Lazio. I honestly don’t know what really changes with a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1, as it’s constantly in movement.

“In the second half the team reacted better, but I don’t believe it was down to the system. We made mistakes and continue to take one step forward, two steps back. I didn’t expect for us to become Barcelona or Bayern Munich within a month, so errors can happen, but I don’t believe they were connected to the system.”

Mateo Kovacic was the shining light for Inter and scored a sensational volley.

“Kovacic is improving because he has quality and will do better every day as he matures. It has nothing to do with me.”

Walter Mazzarri often complained the squad felt excessive pressure playing at San Siro, as again tonight Fredy Guarin was loudly jeered.

“There is some fear, especially when games take a bad turn. We need to overcome this obstacle too and I trust we will. I hope in the next home match we can keep a clean sheet or at least score more goals.

“If you look at the goals conceded, the first was a flick-on and the second a player who ran from midfield. We must try to improve in many aspects and this is one of them.”

Mancini said he wanted to sign wingers and a creative midfielder, but tried to focus on his current squad.

“Aside from signings, the team must work to improve. We’ve seen what they can do in the first half against Udinese and second half here. To find consistency it takes time and hard work. If we also bring in players in roles where we are currently lacking, then that’s good too.”

Mancini also backed director of sport Piero Ausilio’s claim that Inter are “not interested” in Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon.

“We’ve never discussed Lennon. We talked about other players, but Lennon is not a target for us.”
