The young Croatia international hit a sensational volley from the edge of the box on a poorly-cleared corner.

“I’ve scored many goals and I think this was the best of my career,” Kovacic told Sky Sport Italia.

“I can’t help but be disappointed, as we had a great opportunity today and gave away those two goals with mistakes. We can’t be happy with 2-2.

“We lacked determination and Lazio started so strong. I don’t know how they scored the first goal, it came out of nowhere. When 2-0 down, it’s tough to win.

“We are still missing something and it’ll be really difficult for third place if we can’t get a consistent run of results.

“We are still getting used to the new Coach and with time we will improve together.”

Kovacic was again asked what his favourite tactical role was.

“I am a little tired of talking about my best position. I don’t mind and the Coach puts me in my best role.”
