Roberto Mancini “saw some good things” after Inter’s friendly and hinted at a Xherdan Shaqiri exit. “We have to sacrifice someone.”

“I saw some good things I was satisfied with the first half, albeit with some mistakes that were no doubt down to fatigue. The second half, however, did not impress me.

“Geoffrey Kondogbia has been training with us for three days, so he needs time, but he is settling in well.”

Shaqiri was notably absent, fuelling reports of an imminent transfer to Schalke 04, and Mancini did drop some hints.

“He didn’t play because he is tired. Unfortunately, as we need to limit the squad to 25 players, for those we sign someone else has to leave.”

The Swiss international rejected Stoke City and was also linked to Wolfsburg, while Inter are finding it tough to off-load some of their players. Is he irritated by these refusals?

“No, because a player has to be happy if he gets the chance to play elsewhere. I understand it’s very difficult to leave Inter, but we have to sacrifice a few of them.”

The Corriere dello Sport has claimed over the last two days that Inter are fighting Milan for PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“He is a great player who everyone would want in their team, but to say he’ll come to Inter right now is difficult.”
