The 2018-19 season fixtures in Italy’s top-flight will become known at a ceremony this evening, with Mancini having previously been in charge of Inter, Fiorentina and Lazio.

However, the Azzurri Coach insists he is happy in his current role and is ready for the ‘important’ challenge of reviving the Nazionale’s fortunes.

“Do I miss Serie A on the day the fixtures come out? Why?” Mancini said to Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The Nazionale is still something you aspire to as a Coach, just as it is to wear the Azzurri shirt when you are a player.

“There are some who prefer to have that daily relationship with the team and maybe, because of that, they don’t feel called to be a national team boss.

“I felt ready for such an important experience. We have started on a journey and we want to take Italy back to being one of the main players in international football.”

Mancini is adamant that the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus will only serve to help young Italian players in years to come.

“It’s great for Juve and the League. You always learn from champions and our young players, who are already around the Nazionale, can only improve by having the chance to face him.

“Someone like him is a blessing for Serie A, and I hope it’s the first in a long list.

“It’s the fact mediocre foreign players are brought into the League that isn’t good, not world class players.”
