The Gazzetta dello Sport believe that the 49-year-old held talks this week for two days with Barcelona’s former defender and current assistant sporting director Puyol.

It is speculated that Mancini ‘tried in every way’ to convince the recently retired World Cup winner to join him at San Siro, only for Puyol to turn him down.

The 36-year-old apparently rejected the Coach’s advances out of the difficulty in breaking his Barcelona contract and also for not having the required coaching badges in place just yet.

However, the Gazzetta suggest that the door to a future link-up is not entirely closed.
