Carlo Ancelotti is among the candidates for the Manchester United job next season if he leaves Real Madrid, according to ESPN.

The club sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November and Ralf Rangnick was brought in as director, but is also their short-term manager.

It now remains to be seen if Rangnick will stay on or another more permanent coach be brought in over the summer.

The main choices include Mauricio Pochettino of PSG and Ajax’s Erik ten Hag.

However, ESPN claims sources close to Manchester United told them Sir Alex Ferguson is recommending Ancelotti for the role.

The Italian has won the League title in Italy, France, England and Germany, while he could still complete the top five with Spain at Real Madrid.

Nonetheless, Champions League setbacks have put his position at risk at the Bernabeu and there are reports he could be dismissed come the summer.

At the same time, Ancelotti would be unlikely to accept a short-term role at Manchester United, especially if he sees himself as low down on the list.
