The Daily Express claimed Liverpool and Manchester United were in the hunt, reports backed up by Sport Mediaset.

His contract is due to expire in June 2016 and this week his agent confirmed a renewal isn’t likely.

“There were three very soft meetings with the Nerazzurri directors,” representative Federico Pastorello told Tuttosport.

“What does Handanovic want to do? Well, he certainly loves Italy…”

This was perceived as a hint that Handanovic wants to remain in Serie A, where he has interest from Roma.

The Giallorossi would most likely be able to guarantee Champions League football.
