It may well have seemed a strange comment considering De Rossi has spent his entire career at his hometown club, coming up through the youth ranks and nicknamed ‘Future Captain.’
However, the midfielder has struggled to fit into Zeman’s 4-3-3 system and has reportedly had personality clashes with the Coach too.
Manchester City and manager Roberto Mancini have never disguised their interest in De Rossi over the last few years, though Roma were never likely to sell.
The situation has mutated recently with Zeman’s arrival and TalkSport claim De Rossi flew to London recently for talks with Manchester City representatives.
The 29-year-old is due to make his comeback this weekend after a three-match Serie A ban for violent conduct.
