Di Francesco has been rumoured more than once before this term as on the verge of the sack, amid the Neroverdi’s continued fight in the Serie A relegation battle.

However, on from defeat at Livorno in Week 21, which saw the team drop back into the bottom three outright, director general Nereo Bonato told reporters that the 44-year-old’s position was ‘under consideration’.

Reports on Monday morning are that Di Francesco is poised to exit the club, but that before anything is announced, they are keen to have a replacement in line.

It is understood that former Bologna and Genoa boss Alberto Malesani has been contacted over his availability.

The 59-year-old has been out of work for just under a year, following a three-week period in charge of Palermo during February 2013.
