The former left-back still believes that the championship should be completed but is not sure a training retreat will be the best solution for the players health.

“We must try to finish the championship. Football is a company; it has an induced activity of almost €5bn.

“It has a social as well as a sporting importance, there’s a need to try to start again, putting everyone in safety naturally.

“We must also consider the mental health of the players, going into retirement after two months of lockdown is something that is neither right in heaven nor on earth.”

His own future at San Siro has been uncertain since Zvonimir Boban’s farewell and the technical director was coy when asked if he will stay at Milan.

“My family’s history at Milan is so long that it will hardly end…” he added, before putting his two pennies worth down for the Scudetto battle: “By the law of large numbers, I will say Lazio.”
