Stories emerged after the Azzurri’s group stage exit that the Milan legend would replace Giancarlo Abete as chief of the Federation.
However, the former defender has claimed that is not the case, but believes that Mancini is the right man to succeed Cesare Prandelli.
“I was contacted by FIGC before the World Cup, but I haven't heard from anyone after that,” he is quoted as saying by the @Milanello Twitter account.
“The new rumours about me and FIGC are absolutely not true.
“I'm satisfied with my life even though I'm not working in the football world.
“Mancini has the right personality to coach Italy. He knows the national team and I think that he wants to coach them.”
Maldini then commented on the World Cup, claiming that this is one of the best tournaments ever.
“The best player in the World Cup so far? James Rodriguez, Messi, Neymar and Robben.
“This is one of the best World Cups ever.”
