“There are always ups and downs, in sport and any walk of life, so I remember clearly how success was achieved in the past: many times you have to start again.

“At this moment it’s a bit of a struggle, but we’ll see.”

Maldini was asked specifically if he expected all these financial difficulties.

“I had formed a general idea, but we should wait for events at this point and see what happens.”
