Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan resumed training with his gloves today, his first major step back on the road to recovery, with reports he could return against Napoli on December 19.

The shot-stopper was spotted in goal today, on his own rather than participating in the game between ranks, but had his gloves on for the first time since surgery on his wrist.

Maignan has been in training with his Rossoneri teammates for a couple of weeks now, albeit in a role where he didn’t have to use his hands.

The former Lille goalkeeper is slightly ahead of schedule on his recovery programme after undergoing keyhole surgery on his wrist on October 13.

The plan was for Maignan to return around January 5, but that date might be moved a little further forward if his progress continues at this pace.

According to Calciomercato.com and Sky Sport Italia, the hope is that he could be back in goal for the Scudetto showdown against Napoli on December 19.

Ciprian Tatarusanu saved a penalty during the 1-1 derby draw with Inter, but his howler was costly in last night’s 4-3 defeat to Fiorentina.
