“Christian will sign a contract before the end of the year,” Massimo Briaschi told Radio CRC on Wednesday.

“Maggio, on more than one occasion, has outlined that he intends to prolong his stay with the club for a while longer.

“As a result of that, it seems to me that the club are ready to hand him an extension to his contract. I think we’re close to signing.

“The delay in actually finalising everything is simply down to how busy both parties have been in recent times.

“An agreement will be signed by the end of the year.”

Maggio, who joined the Azzurri from Sampdoria” data-scaytid=”12″>Sampdoria in 2008, is an Italian international who featured in last night’s 1-0 loss to Uruguay.
