Christian Maggio insists Italy may be qualified for Euro 2012, but “cannot afford to be embarrassed” in Serbia.

The Azzurri have already won Group C and booked a spot in the tournament in Ukraine and Poland, but have two more games to go against Serbia and Northern Ireland.

“We do not want to underestimate Friday's match with Serbia, but rather are eager to prove our worth and always give 100 per cent,” said the Napoli winger.

There are injury problems, as Domenico Criscito, Mario Balotelli and Giampaolo Pazzini have gone home due to injuries, while Giuseppe Rossi is also in doubt with a knee problem.

Roma striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo and Torino defender Angelo Ogbonna have been called up as last-minute replacements.

“We cannot afford to be embarrassed on Friday, because we are Italy and everyone who steps on to the field wants to give their all.

“As for myself, I am happy that at the age of 29 I can still play at the top level. Napoli have beaten some big clubs, but it's too early to talk about us as Scudetto contenders. It's going to be very difficult to win the title.

“I hope to renew my contract, as I've an idea in my head of ending my career wearing this jersey.”
