Fiorentina will look to sign Massimo Maccarone in the January transfer window if the club decides to sell Adrian Mutu, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Widespread reports claim Mutu's time is up at the Artemio Franchi and it would appear a move to the MLS is on the cards even amid interest from Turkey and Qatar.

Mutu has a house in Miami and would apparently favour a move the United States if he were to be made available for transfer.

In the meantime, Fiorentina have asked Palermo if they can take Maccarone on loan until the end of the season.

Palermo would rather sell the veteran striker, even though they only signed him in the summer.

La Gazzetta understands Fiorentina can buy Maccarone for around €4m, but it remains to be seen whether he would wear Viola given his ties with local rivals Siena.
