A fund based in Luxembourg announced they have made a concrete offer to purchase Serie A side Salernitana for €40m.

The club was promoted from Serie B in May and knew immediately that owner Claudio Lotito had to sell up, because he already runs Lazio in Serie A and dual ownership in the same division is against the rules.

He put the club into a blind trust in August when no buyer was found in time, but the deadline is looming on December 31 to complete the sale or risk Salernitana being thrown out of the division.

Lega Serie A vote against Salernitana exclusion

Salernitana trustees warned there weren’t concrete offers able to cover the deposit by December 31, but there is now confusion over the situation.

Toro Capital and Francesco Di Silvio released a statement via the Adnkronos news agency assuring that they have made an offer worth €40m, supported with a bank guarantee for the full sum.

“We want to make our position clear and above all treat the city of Salerno and the Salernitana fans with respect, as they deserve satisfaction.

“Our proposal remains valid and can be formalised at any moment. We are at the total disposal of anyone who is asking for further clarification.”

Salernitana host Inter this evening and the ultras are expected to stage a protest against Lotito and the current trustees.

The Lega Serie A clubs voted to extend the deadline for a sale and keep Salernitana in Serie A at least until the end of the season, but the final decision stands with the FIGC.

  1. Yay! I don’t want to speak too soon but it sounds like good news. That’s a bargain price too. Of course a lot would have to be invested, but a club like that has huge potential. I remember even in the late 90’s their average crowd was over 30,000, even though they ended up getting relegated!
