Romelu Lukaku won’t be part of the Inter squad for their Champions League clash against Barcelona tonight but he’s close to returning for the Nerazzurri.

The 29-year-old Belgian forward returned to the Milanese club on an €8m loan deal from Chelsea in the summer and had a good start to life under Simone Inzaghi, scoring a goal and providing an assist in his first two games of the season. After the loss to Lazio, Lukaku was forced to the sidelines with a muscle injury, leaving him unavailable since.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Lukaku has been training individually for the last few days and is hoping to return to squad training sessions in the coming days. He has not wanted to rush his recovery ahead of the World Cup in Qatar, which is why he won’t join Inter for the Barcelona clash.

Lukaku’s aim is to be in the Inter squad for the next Serie A match against Salernitana on Sunday October 16, where he could make an appearance off the bench. If this goes well, he’ll continue working hard before making a full return for the match against Fiorentina on Saturday October 22.
