Romelu Lukaku made his comeback for Inter and his first appearance of the season in the Champions League, as a substitute at San Siro against Viktoria Plzen.

The Belgium international was on the bench this evening for the first time since sustaining that muscular injury on August 26.

It was originally believed that strain would keep him out for three to four weeks, but ended up being two months until he was passed fit to return.

The timing of that injury means Lukaku had not participated in any of the Champions League matches this season until today.

His team did well in his absence, though, as tonight’s win over Viktoria Plzen guarantees passage to the Round of 16, sending Barcelona into the Europa League in third place.

Lukaku had managed only three Serie A appearances since his loan move from Chelsea, contributing a goal and an assist in just 227 minutes of football.
