Lazio midfielder Luis Alberto said they are eager to get back to playing, not just for the sport, but also for ‘so many other employees who depend on football.’

The season has been shut down since March 10 due to the coronavirus pandemic, but they should be allowed to resume training from Monday, albeit with social distancing guidelines.

“I miss many things: the smell of fresh-cut grass, pranks in the dressing room, the tension before a game, the video sessions, the adrenaline of a training session…” wrote Luis Alberto on Instagram.

“This is my normality, this is our normality. The last few weeks have been awful, the entire country suffered with this damned COVID-19, but we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

“Without rushing, with great caution and also a little bit of concern, but Italy is slowly getting back to activity and we want to do that too. We are ready!

“We want to and must get back to work, not just for us players, but because so many other employees depend on football. Employees who are now without a salary and need to get back to normal.

“We don’t want to be responsible for further cuts and loss of employment. We want to help reopen the country, get our fans passionate again and bring back that joy.

“This is what football is for: to unite us. We are ready to return.”
