Joachim Low said Germany’s World Cup quarter-final victory over France went “according to plan.”

They have set a new record by reaching the World Cup semi-final for the fourth time in a row, all of them involving Lazio striker Miroslav Klose.

“I think both teams played well defensively today,” the Coach told reporters after the 1-0 result.

“There weren’t many goalscoring opportunities, so that went according to plan. We didn’t want to give France chances with the quality of strikers they possess. We closed them down well – and that was the key.

“They did the same against us, because Yohan Cabaye and Paul Pogba are a great screen for the defence and we knew that we had to go wide in order to create chances.

“France gave everything to try to force the equaliser, but Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng were excellent and Manuel Neuer did well when called upon.”

The Germans will face Brazil or Colombia in the semi-final next week.
