Lazio President Claudio Lotito says that Coach Stefano Pioli ‘was never up for discussion and I’ve never had doubts.’

The Biancocelesti boss has been under pressure lately after picking up only one point from his last six Serie A matches.

The Biancocelesti boss has been under pressure lately after picking up only one point from his last six Serie A matches.

Several names have been linked with the job, such as Marcello Lippi and Simone Inzaghi, but Lotito has reaffirmed his faith in the man who took Lazio to a third-place finish last season.

“Pioli was never up for discussion, he is the Coach of Lazio and I’ve never had doubts,” Lotito told Il Messaggero.

“Anyone who says the contrary is mistaken. The fact that the team is against the Coach is just an invention of the press, no one has argued and if you ask the players they are united behind their Coach.”

Former Aquile boss Vladimir Petkovic was also contacted by the newspaper to give his opinion on the matter.

The Bosnian made his mark in the capital by guiding Lazio to the Coppa Italia title in 2013 and beating Roma in the final.

However, he was sacked the following season and empathises with the situation of Pioli.

“What’s happening to Pioli is the mirror image of what I went through at Lazio,” Petkovic said.
