The 33-year-old has been accused of sporting fraud for alleged involvement in fixing games between the capital club, Genoa and Lecce, as well as being cited as having also violated Article 1 paragraph 1 of the Code of Sports Justice, the principles of loyalty, fairness and integrity, and Article 6 paragraph 1, prohibition of betting.

The Biancocelesti owner though, has insisted the the veteran attacker is not worried about questioning.

“Mauri is very serene and peaceful,” he told reporters. “We are talking about events that happened three years ago.

“It's 2013/14 – the team cannot be penalized after three years because of a third person who reports something heard by others.

“It's all complicated. It threatens to overwhelm the credibility of the whole system.”
