Lazio President Claudio Lotito has criticised the agent of Modibo Diakite for constructing his expected summer exit.

The defender, who is close to Napoli, will leave the capital club in June on a free transfer after terms over a new deal in Rome collapsed.

And a similar situation is developing with regard to Luis Cavanda and his June 2014 contract, another Lazio player who is represented by Ulisse Savini.

“There are people, so-called agents, who are taking action to suit their needs,” Lotito told Sky Sport Italia.

“Behaviour which causes damage to the sport and their own players. This is the logic of a mercenary and history shows that mercenaries have lost all wars.

“Savini has become the agent of Cavanda, Diakite and Icardi. All three players are in similar situations and have a common denominator.

“If a player stays at the same club then they don’t bring any economic advantage to the agent, who undoubtedly benefits when a player leaves on a Bosman free transfer.

“We offered Diakite €850,000 a season plus bonuses, while he today earns €250,000. He would have been our highest paid defender despite the fact that he still has to prove his worth.”
