The preparation for the game was overshadowed by news the FIGC will re-evaluate its punishment for unsporting behaviour in the Serie B promotion play-off against Palermo in June, which among other incidents saw players from the touchline throw on extra footballs to break up attacks.

“The footballs didn’t influence the Palermo moves and the footage confirms that. In any case, we are focused only on this game,” said Longo in his Press conference.

“Frosinone deserve respect. A club that put together three promotions in five years is only to be praised. President Maurizio Stirpe has given so much to the area, but also to the Calcio world, as shown by our new stadium.”

The Canarini had been forced to play behind closed doors and on neutral turf as punishment for those play-off shenanigans, but can finally greet the fans at the Stadio Benito Stirpe.

“We have almost everyone back from injury, with Gori close to getting the all-clear from medics, but Paganini and Dionisi will be out for a while yet. Daniel Ciofani and Joel Campbell are available again.

“There are no easy games in Serie A and Sampdoria were constructed to qualify for Europe. We’re playing in front of our fans and three points would be fundamental.

“Samp have a precise identity and love to pass the ball around, so we must be wary, especially of the trequartista working between the lines.

“Players like Fabio Quagliarella can hurt you in an instant. We’ve got to play as a team, keep the pace up and our minds sharp. In Serie A you need the courage to win. I don’t like saying run risks, because that has negative connotations, but rather free your mind of pressure with the ball at your feet.”
