There are now 8,258 in hospital with serious symptoms, including 1,093 in intensive care.

Bergamo is the worst-affected and it’s reported this evening the military trucks will return to take away another 70 coffins.

The crematorium in the town can only manage 25 per day, if it runs 24 hours a day, so the mounting death toll is creating a backlog.

Earlier this week, a procession of trucks took away 60 coffins to be cremated in other cities and regions, but the situation has precipitated even further.
