Catania were contacted by both Milan sides over the last 12 months, but they sold him to the Grifone last month.

“I’m happy to have been of interest to the big clubs, those who target the Champions League,” he noted.

“It shows that I have done well in the past, but now I need to do even better and I will have the chance to grow at Genoa.”

Lodi has been around Serie A and B for the last decade, but he has really flourished over the last few years after being converted into a deep midfield playmaker.

“I’m 29 and at the peak of my maturity, but I’m still young as a playmaker,” he added. “I’ve only been doing it for two and a half years.

“I still have a lot to learn and things to improve on.”

Lodi has been suggested as a possible Italian international, but he has yet to receive a call-up from Cesare Prandelli.

“I won’t talk about the national team anymore,” he added. “Only the field of play will tell me how good I am in a role which I feel is mine.”
