Fiorentina have rejected Milan’s offer for Adem Ljajic, but confirmed the player will be sold if he doesn’t extend his contract.

The Serbian international is understood to have been the subject of a €7m offer from the Diavolo, a bid which has been dismissed.

“From what I know, the offers we have received so far are some way off the player’s value,” Viola chief Andrea Della Valle told reporters at Moena today.

“I spoke with the player this morning, he seems calm and expressed his desire to remain in Florence. We’ll now meet with his agent next week.”

The forward’s future is in doubt given that his contract is set to expire next season which would make him available on a Bosman in June 2014.

“I hope he stays here with us,” Della Valle continued. “He is a future champion who can give a lot to Fiorentina.

“We are aware of his qualities, but certain evaluations need to be made when talking about salaries. Fiorentina will make their considerations and I hope the player understands our offer.

“If he doesn’t accept a new contract then he will be sold. There will not be another Riccardo Montolivo situation [who joined Milan on a Bosman last year].

“I’m relatively optimistic though.”

Reports suggest that Ljajic’s agent is attempting to get the 21-year-old a €2m a season deal. He currently earns €750,000 a campaign.
