Milan are only second to Liverpool for goals conceded in 2022 in Europe’s top five leagues but rank 40th for goals scored.

The Rossoneri host Genoa at the Stadio Meazza tonight and will be looking for their first goal in three games. They collected two successive 0-0 draws against Bologna and Torino in the last two Serie A matches.

Overall, Milan haven’t conceded in the last five Serie A games and Stefano Pioli could become the third coach in the club’s history to keep six clean sheets in a row after Fabio Capello (seven and nine times in 1993-94) and Nereo Rocco in 1971-72.

Milan have the second-best defence in the top five leagues in 2022 (seven goals conceded in 13 games). Liverpool are the only team with a better record in the process (six goals conceded in 12 matches).

However, the Rossoneri have only scored 16 goals since the start of the year and are ranked 40th in Europe. Olivier Giroud was the last Rossoneri striker to find the net in league games, more than a month ago. The Frenchman will start against Genoa tonight as Zlatan Ibrahimovic is on the treatment table with knee issues.

  1. As I said before, Milan’s defense has been rock solid. That’s why Pioli wouldn’t change things, and it’s understandable because Milan creates, just can’t finish.

But if this statistic doesn’t tell the Milan managers what the priorities for the summer will be, I don’t know what will.
