The newspaper reports that the Reds are looking at Abate as a potential replacement for Glen Johnson, who is expected to leave the club next summer at the end of his contract.

The London-based daily believes Brendan Rodgers’ side could even move for the defender in January in a cut-price deal.

However, it is also understood that the Anfield club are looking at Joel Ward of Crystal Palace as an alternative target.
