While some reports suggested the man had been stabbed, it now seems as if he was hit when belts – with the buckle swung at great speed – caused his injuries.

These same Roma fans appear to have caused trouble earlier in the afternoon on Hanover Street.

A man has been arrested in connection with the assault.

Meanwhile, police had secretly changed the route of the Giallorossi team bus to avoid similar incidents to the ones that saw Manchester City’s team bus viciously attacked before their Champions League quarter-final.
