Marcello Lippi is tipped for a new role with the Federation, so Milan turn to Manchester City’s Manuel Pellegrini.

The original report on Friday from La Gazzetta dello Sport suggested Pellegrini would be appointed Coach with Lippi in a directorial position at the club.

However, today the same paper updates its information to claim Lippi is heading for a supervisory role within the FIGC, where he’d oversee all the various levels of the Nazionale.

That includes youth academies, Under-19 and Under-21 sides leading up to the senior Azzurri.

Milan therefore have to adjust their plans to focus only on Pellegrini as their Coach, without guidance from someone familiar with the pressures of Serie A football.

Pellegrini already knows he’ll be leaving Manchester City this summer, as the club has announced Pep Guardiola will arrive from Bayern Munich.

Milan’s situation is in flux, as President Silvio Berlusconi is still considering a takeover bid from Chinese investors, said to include Jack Ma and the Guangzhou Group.
