Former Italy CT Marcello Lippi has claimed Guangzhou Evergrande coach Fabio Cannavaro would be ready for a return to Europe: “He has wisdom and experience.”

The World Cup winners have had a similar path in the Far East, after Cannavaro took charge of Guangzhou Evergrande when Lippi stepped into the role of China CT.

The former defender also succeeded Lippi at the helm of the national side, as caretaker for just over a month between March 10 and April 28.

Despite the success in China and right after leading Evergrande to the title in December, Cannavaro revealed that his target ‘is to find my way back to Europe’ and now he receives support from his former master.

“He is ready for Italy,” Lippi told the Gazzetta dello Sport. “Yes, very ready. He has wisdom, experience, and knows how to involve the people who work with him.”

The 71-year-old also revealed that he has been looking back at his 34-year-long career during the current self-isolation in Italy and admitted that he has a very particular habit.

“I dedicate myself to reread my past,” Lippi said. “Since the first day, since the reserves of Sampdoria, I have a habit of writing down all my training sessions. I really mean all of them.

“In these days I have looked at those notes, having fun remembering how I dealt with the problems back then.”
